Rickey, whom I called "Rickey Sue", was a warm, funny, compassionate co-worker, and one of the few people I considered a best friend at work. She reminded me of actress Betty White: a blond, blue-eyed, dimpled, sweet, selfless person who did good things for others.

Rickey liked all things purple and was unlikely to "toot her own horn". She shared many funny, family stories. One of my favorites involved her purple dining room. Technically, the color was Phantom Blue - a technicality she'd use to her advantage if someone raised an objection to her favorite color.

Rickey was a social butterfly. It wasn't unusual for me to leave for home at least 30 minutes after Rickey, yet pass her in the hallway on my way to the door while she was talking with someone she hadn't seen in a while. I think this is why Rickey kept a jar of candy on her desk. It wasn't for her, it was bait for the rest of us, to entice us to stop by for a piece and hang around for a few minutes to chat.

One day, when we left work at about the same time, I saw Rickey on the freeway just before she exited. The roof was down on her white Mustang convertible and she had her hair tied back in a pony tail so it wouldn't get in her face while driving. This will be my lasting memory of Rickey.
