Tom was born in Sebring, Florida, grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, and Graduated from Arlington High School in Fort Worth in 1963. While in high school, Tom joined ROTC and after graduation enlisted in the Army. After the completion of his duties in the Army, Tom moved to California, were he spent most of his adult life living in Los Angeles. He relocated to Phoenix in 2015 and lived there until his passing.
Tom was an attorney by profession, and specialized in third-party liability defense and workers’ compensation insurance defense law.
Tom was an athlete as a young adult, and played football and baseball in college. He also enjoyed fishing, playing pool, competitive bowling, golfing, playing Bridge with friends, and was considered an advanced Gold Master bridge player.
Tom may have had some health struggles in the last few years, but he lived life to the fullest, always grateful for his time with his children, grandchildren and friends. Tom would do anything for his children and friends, and loved fiercely. He was an inspiration to anyone who would meet him due to his mental strength, courage, adaptability and resilience.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Van Der Vliet and Thomas B. Wylie, III. He is survived by his five siblings, Margaret McClung Sinex-Weeks, Alexander Carroll McClung, David Richard McClung, Schuyler “Scott” Van Der Vliet, Pam Wylie Morrison, his two children, Christopher Wylie and Brian Wylie, daughter-in-law, Ciara Wylie, and his two grandchildren, Ash Wylie and Juniper Wylie.
