Robert Buck, Sr. passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, May 26, 2020. Loving husband of Kathleen A. (Brown) and the late Sandra Buck (Chambers), he was the devoted father of Robert Jr. (Janice), Frank C. (Linda) and Margaret E. (Brian Cohen), and grandfather of Jessica, Erica, Lauren (Brian Matthews), Andy Buck and Ava & Ansel Cohen.
Born September 4, 1933 to Albert F. and Grace E. (Hoffman) Buck, Bob and his late brother Albert Jr. spent their earliest years in Crafton Heights before moving to Ross Township. After graduating from West View High School, he immediately followed in his brother’s footsteps and enlisted in the US Air Force. Despite many attempts to “see the world” by volunteering for assignments as far afield as Goose Bay, Labrador, Bob spent his time in the Mojave Desert working as a jet engine mechanic crew chief at George AFB. He was always good for a story about the food or the spiders in Victorville.
After his service, Bob returned to Pittsburgh and settled in Ross Township. He spent 30 years in banking before retiring in 1993, when his best hours were spent alongside his children working on home improvement projects and the maintenance of his investment properties.
Bob was an amateur pilot, model train enthusiast, and coin collector. He spent his free time in the yard, tinkering in the garage, and summer weekends sitting around a campfire with his family. Bob loved to travel and will be remembered for his love of driving – especially on epic road trips. His family will tell you that no outing with him was complete without somehow “wrapping a meal around it”. Whether it was steak and potatoes, a fish and a beer, or a slice of kielbasa over the fire, Bob delighted in a good meal.
Bob was a kind and honest man, a true gentleman and had a life well-lived. He loved his family deeply and he will be missed tremendously.
Bob will be laid to rest on Saturday May 30, 2020 in Allegheny County Memorial Park. Arrangements by H.P. Brandt Funeral Home in Perrysville. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 920 Perry Hwy., Pittsburgh, PA 15229.
