Gordon Sanford Diem, Sr.

Gordon Sanford Diem, Sr. 87, of Pompano Beach, FL passed away on March 24, 2014. He was born on August 23, 1926 in East Orange, NJ, and then relocated to Moorestown, NJ where he was raised. He is survived by his loving wife Lillian Diem, a son Gordon Diem, Jr. and a daughter Kimberly Diem. At the age of 16 he enlisted in the US Marine Corp. He served in the Asiatic-South Pacific conflict during WW II. Gordon was the last recorded Marine to have loaded and guarded the Enola Gay, the plane which carried the Atomic Bomb the ended the war against Japan. He enjoyed owning his own business Aluma-Tex Construction Co. as a builder and licensed contractor for more than 50 years. He was a lifetime member of the Screen Actors Guild having done many TV and magazine commercials for Evinrude Motors. He also enjoyed the role of television announcer for the Del Russo Show. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and fine artist. He was a talented photographer, owning his own company for many years called Creative Camera. Mr. Diem was a devout Christian proudly and passionately serving the Lord as a speaker for The Gideon’s International for most of his life. He was a tender loving man and fiercely proud to be an American and serve his country. He will be so very missed by his family and friends. We love you so very much Dad! Praise God for being absent from the Body is to be present with the Lord, Hallelujah! The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Forest lawn Funeral Home, 200 West Copans Road, Pompano Beach, FL 33064 with a Funeral Service beginning at 7:00 P.M. Interment with Military Honors will take place at 12:45 P.M. on Friday, May 2, 2014 at South Florida national Cemetery, Lake worth, FL
