James J. Slowey Jr.

James J. Slowey, Jr., was born on June 27, 1959 in New Brunswick, New Jersey and passed away unexpectedly on April 14, 2018 in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

James was born and raised in New Jersey and is survived by his mother; his wife, (Elizabeth “Lizz” Slowey); his sisters and an extended family of nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends and colleagues. He is predeceased by his father, James J. Slowey; maternal and paternal grandparents; and his loving dog and faithful companion (Sebastian).

James attended Pace University in New York City and built an amazing career trajectory, 30 years, in the beauty packaging industry, most recently as VP of Sales & Marketing for Baralan USA, formerly Arrowpak USA, heading all US domestic markets. He began his career in the New York Office, followed by California, where he met his wife, and Florida. He was highly regarded as knowledgeable, skilled, dedicated and a “True Professional” in the business and “fixture” at nearly all trade shows and events, where he loved to represent and speak about the packaging industry and his company’s many capabilities.

Jim was a loving, caring and highly devoted and supportive husband, son, brother, uncle and friend who loved life, long walks along the beach, golf, travel, a good read and keeping up on the latest local, national and international happenings, from politics to pop culture. He was a connoisseur of “all information” always coming up with answers on Jeopardy, and often stated that his brain was a “repository and collection of useless information.” He was a “foodie” at heart, always willing to try new things and order the most interesting menu options and would often decide on dinner based on his latest online finds! He loved Starbucks Coffee (black or double expresso), often citing its flavor consistency based on his worldwide travels and enjoyed the occasional “Maker’s Mark Bourbon,” his signature drink. He was loved for his quick wit, unparalleled humor and his ability to welcome strangers and friends alike…A “gentleman,” who was kind, compassionate and never missed the opportunity to lend a helping hand.

Jim was a man of “Great Catholic Faith,” who always carried his rosary beads in his pocket and was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Assembly 651 of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Jim was loved, liked and will be greatly missed by all who knew him, professionally and personally. This world has lost a gem…A “True Gentleman.”

Family, Friends and Others, whose lives he touched directly and indirectly are invited to celebrate his life and honor his memory during his memorial service, held at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Fort Lauderdale on Friday, May 4th at 11am, followed by a luncheon at noon on church premises, 2000 Marietta Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316.
