Glenn Fredrick Elder
January 20, 1954 – September 1, 2019
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Glenn F. Elder on September 1, 2019 at the age of 65 after a courageous struggle with COPD.
Predeceased by his parents, Fred and Leona, Glenn is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Val; daughters Lynette, Coreen and Gwen (Wes); grandkids: Karmen, Gage, Cortney, Nolan, Ivy, Jacob and Phoenix; and his sister Bev. Also left to mourn his passing are numerous relatives and friends.
Glenn was a loving and dedicated family man who was always there when needed. For Glenn, actions were stronger than words – his family knew he expressed his love by helping out whether it be with grandkids, money, renovating/fixing anything and everything. He was our “Jack of all trades” and could always be counted on.
Glenn will be remembered for his exceptional woodworking & cabinetry skills. He was meticulous and precise – (kitchen cabinets, countertops, speakers, fishing rods, furniture) – it had to be perfect. One of his greatest passions was for fishing. He spent countless hours on the “Explorer” any chance he could, often with kids, grandkids, and friends. The highlight of his life was when he won the 21st Annual Salmon Fishing Derby in 1992 – we’ve never seen him so happy. He was absolutely thrilled. Glenn had a love of music all his life. His stereo was his prized possession (so keep your hands off). He loved all genres of music (the louder the better).
Our most profound gratitude to Dr. Forrester and the nursing staff at West Coast General Hospital for their compassionate and dignified care of Glenn during his final hours. Also thanks to Dr. Muhlenberg and Chrissy (his home care nurse). We also thank Chapel of Memories for their guidance and compassion in our difficult time.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Alberni Valley Hospice Society, SPCA, Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at Cherry Creek Community Hall, 3720 Moore Road, Port Alberni on Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 1 – 3 pm.

To Val and Family, we are so appreciative for the blessing to be able to see you both this summer even for the brief time that we were there. We now believe it was fortunate timing that we all will remember with great humility. Our thoughts and emotions are with you all at this difficult and divine time.
An Ode To A Life Long Friend: Glen I remember one of the first times I met you in the trailer on Wood ave close to Redford, there was a few of us laughing and drinking some Everclear and thinking life was for real.. Through the years it never a cured to me that we would be doing the things we did! You were there for some very special times... The Toronto trip, the get togethers, the dances, some weddings, fishing trips, BBQ's, and so many other memories. You were there for me in some pretty cumbersome times and I appreciate you being there and helping me out, but that was the kinda guy you were, thank you. Just months ago you gave me your PH# and you mine, feel free to call any time MY Friend my line is always open. You'll always be "Glen The Hen" my special friend. Rest In Peace old fisherman, til we meet again............ From the Racette's in Red Deer.
