Edwin L. Smith, July 16, 1935-February 10, 2018 passed away peacefully at home. He was born in Decatur, IL, but spent most of his childhood in Flint, Michigan. After moving to Florida, where he met his wife, they later opened 2nd Chance Home Furnishings, the first store of its kind in North Port. He served in the Army National Guard and the United States Army. He enjoyed bowling, softball, gardening, and loved reading his bible. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of North Port, where he served the Lord in many ministries. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who always made his family proud.
He leaves behind his wife Doris of 45 years, 3 children; Roger Taylor (Karen), Pam McKahan (Gene), and Audrea Robinson. There are 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and forever loved. A Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church of North Port, 8000 Dorothy Avenue, on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM.
