

Thomas William Watters Jr, 85, of Port Charlotte, FL formerly of Wharton, NJ passed away at home with his wife by his side, after a long illness. Tom was born July 25, 1931 at home in Wharton on Main Street. His parents were Thomas Sr. and Henrietta (nee Allen). He went into the Army in 1950 to 1953 and obtained the rank of Sergeant. Tom worked at L.E. Carpenter in Wharton and Department of the Army Research and Development of Picatinny Arsenal in Rockaway Twp. for thirty years. He was past Fire Chief in 1977 and 1983 in his home town of Wharton. Tom belonged to New Jersey Fire Chiefs Association, National Association Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), life member over 50 years with American Legion Post 110 and 40/8 of #110. Tom was firing squad commander for 18 years with Post 110, his last firing squad honors was for his good friend, Orlando “John” Ramirez in 2009. He loved his family and friends; plus motorcycles, car races and all sports. Tom is survived by his wife of 36 years, Caroline (nee Symonds); daughter, Cheryl Ann (James) Connelly of Lake Hopatcong, NJ; step-sister, June Williams of Poplarville, Miss.; step-children, John (Cheryl) Oakes of Branchville, NJ, Caroline (Mike) McGinnis of Auburn, AL and Daniel Oakes of Port Charlotte, FL. Services will be held 11:30 AM Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover, NJ 07936.
