Irving Louis Kolar, 92, of Seadrift, passed away Feb. 9, 2021. He was born Jan. 27, 1929 in Flatonia to Joseph Thomas Kolar and Frances Edna Vyvjala. Irving attended school in Flatonia, then attended Southwest Texas State, San Marcos – served in the Navy, WWII as a Seabee builder 3rd class, with duty in the South Pacific, Midway Islands, Kwajalein, M.I., Guam, M.I. and Hawaii. He received the WWII Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was married to Claudia Wyatt Kolar for 68 years and had 3 children. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 4403. Irving was a carpenter by trade belonging to the Carpenter and Painters of America & United Steel Workers Union. He retired from Alcoa, Point Comfort & CCISD, and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Seadrift. He was able to visit all 50 states. Throughout his retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife, his dogs, trips to Coushatta, his daily trip to the post office and visiting with friends and telling a favorite joke or two and buying his daily lottery ticket. Survived by his children: Richard Irving Kolar, Martin Rex Kolar, Linda Susan (Augustine) Rivera; grandchildren: Austen Rivera, Drew Rivera, Tiffany (Gary) Crone, Carley (Drake) Stringo, Wesley Kolar and Harley Kolar; and 5 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, John Joe Kolar; sisters, Mary Oma Jones and Bernice Condon; and great-grandchild, Nixon Stringo. Private family services will be held at a later date.
