Thomas Wayne Jurica, lovingly known as “Poppy”, passed away June 17, 2018 at the age of 69. He was born November 9, 1948 in Schulenburg to Herman and Edna Jurica. Thomas was retired from Alcoa and was a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of VFW Post 4403. “Poppy” was an avid supporter of his grandchildren’s sporting events and never missed a game.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Jurica of Port Lavaca; daughter, Tonia Hollas (Shane) of Schulenburg; sister, Blondie Keller of Georgetown; brother, Roger Jurica of Point Comfort and 2 grandchildren, Jase and Brynlee Hollas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Charlene Jurica.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 5 -7 p.m. at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home with a rosary to begin at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church. Burial with military honors under the auspices of the Calhoun County Veterans Joint Honor Guard will follow at Greenlawn Gardens.
Pallbearers are Steve Hartensteiner, Tim Havrda, Judd Hollas, Keith Keller, Jackie Machac, and Ethan Muska.
Honorary Pallbearers are Brad Keller and Tommie Matchett.
Memorial donations may be made to MD Anderson or St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Schulenburg.
