James R Cowsert Jr., age 82, passed away April 24, 2019 due to respiratory failure. He was born July 29, 1936 in Sarasota, Florida to James and Martha Cowsert. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Cowsert, children: Susie Lewis, Bonnie Johnson, Trouper Cowsert, Ron Cowsert, Fred Cowsert, sister Joanne Turner, 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son John T Cowsert and brother William “Bill” Cowsert.
Known by most as “Jim”, he was born and raised in Sarasota, Florida and graduated from Sarasota High School in 1954. He worked for many years in the car business owning dealerships in Nebraska and Wyoming. He had an enviable work ethic that later transitioned into the music business, owning Muzak franchises from Montana to Texas.
Since retiring in 2002, he resided in Hobe Sound, Florida where he found great joy in family gatherings; time stood still in the enjoyment of “good groceries”, laughter and exchanging of stories with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A true Floridian, Jim enjoyed being outdoors, visits to “The Swamp” for Florida Gator games and his love of baseball took him to many Tampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves games. He had an unspeakable love for Sarasota and visited at least once a year for High School reunions. He shared his love of food with anyone willing to get in the truck and drive the distance for good fried chicken, and he would never turn down a plate of BBQ, a perfectly ripe mango or a slice of homemade key lime pie.
Please join us in celebrating his life on Thursday, May 2nd at 4:00 p.m. at The Crossings Community Church located at 5200 Oleander Ave., Fort Pierce, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Crossings Community Church.
