Matilda Alfarano, a resident of Port St. Lucie, Florida passed away on February 27, 2020, peacefully in her sleep at the age of 100 years old in Palm Gardens Nursing Home in Vero Beach. Millie was born on November 10, 1919 in Brooklyn, New York. As a young woman she worked in the garment industry as a seamstress and married Joseph Alfarano on April 10, 1943 and remained his loving wife for 41 years until Joe’s passing in 1984. She retired with her husband to Staten Island, NY to live closer to her children and lived there for many years with her son until moving to Port St. Lucie, Florida with her daughter in 1991 to once again be near her family.
She is survived by her beloved son. Vincent J. Alfarano and daughter-in-law, Gloria Alfarano, and beloved daughter Annette Matteo D’Aniello; three loving grandchildren: granddaughter Lori Armstrong and husband Robert Armstrong, grandson, Nick Matteo and wife, Maryann Brancaccio Matteo, and grandson, Joseph Louis Alfarano. She also has three adoring great grandchildren, Matthew Vincent Armstrong, Ava Marie Matteo and Gia Grace Matteo.
Mildred cherished her family and graciously entertained at large gatherings, loving nothing more than cooking the best Italian food for family and friends. She was always willing to pass down her delicious recipes to her family. She enjoyed music and dancing, playing cards, bowling, going to bingo with her friends and was a lifelong NY Mets baseball fan. She is leaving her family with many years of fond memories to look back on.
A Funeral Mass will be held in honor of Matilda’s memory at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, 350 N.W. California Blvd., St. Lucie West, Port St. Lucie, Florida 34986 on Thursday, March 12th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.
