Charles Bennett Johnson

Charles Bennett Johnson, 82, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 in Kyle, Texas. Mr. Johnson was born on June 16, 1935 in Schenectady, New York. He was the son of the late Maynard Warren Johnson and Lonnie B. (Sweeney) Johnson, originally of Amarillo, TX. Charles was a graduate of Dalton High School, Massachusetts and Leland Stanford University in California. He studied Mechanical Engineering and upon graduation joined the United States Air Force as a meteorologist. After three years in the Air Force, he went to work for General Electric in San Jose, California. He worked 30 years for GE in their nuclear engineering division, and later consulted for a private company in the San Jose area. Charles married and raised three kids with his wife while living in California. After he and his wife divorced, he met Marcia Hammons and he and Marcia became long time companions. After his retirement they lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Las Vega, and Reno, Nevada. He enjoyed bird watching, tennis, opera, growing roses, miniature ship building and genealogy. During his retirement years he wrote a family genealogy book, loved visiting local wineries and was active in the local VFW and poetry club. Charles was predeceased in death by his companion, Marcia Hammons. Interment is a LLano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas on Saturday, May 5, 2018, with Reverend Tommy Needham officiating and music provided by Colin Chambers, Scottish bagpiper.

Wesley D. Johnson, wife, Amy Johnson, and daughters, Molly B. and Fiona Kay of Portland, Maine

Shelley Ann Kopka and daughters, Karissa Olivia and Kaylee Ann, of Johnston, RI.

Lisa Ann Branch, husband, Kenneth Branch, and daughter, Taylor Ayn Mead, of Rockwall, Texas

Jennifer Laco and Husband, Captain Rodelio Laco, Ret., of Flower Mound, Texas and their children:

Stephanie Renee Laco of Dallas, Texas

Jessica Nicole Whitney, her husband, Tom Whitney, and their children, Skyler Thomas, and Zoe Rae, of Little Elm, Texas.
