Betty Arlene Kehoe
December 14, 1931 – October 9, 2020
Betty Arlene Kehoe was born in Portland, Oregon on December 14, 1931 to Frank and Rose Celorie, the second of their four children. She passed away peacefully in the early morning on October 9, 2020 at the age of 88. She was a devout Catholic who always prayed and believed in God and his mercy. Betty was also fiercely protective of her children to the very end of her life. She attended St. Agatha grade school and then St. Mary’s Academy where she excelled academically. She worked for a time for Morningside Hospital and then later for OHSU before becoming a top producer in real estate for over 30 years. She ran for the Oregon State Senate in 1972 and was involved in a number of political campaigns.
She was a gifted painter, having painted hundreds of oil paintings. Her paintings all told a story. She could look at something and then paint exactly what she saw. She played the accordion and piano by ear. If she heard a song, she could play it. She never read music. At every family gathering, especially at Christmas, Betty would play the piano. Her children were the most important people in her life.
She taught advanced astrology for over 40 years, which created some interesting situations for some of us. She enjoyed the beach and had many fond memories in Gearhart, dating back to the days when her four kids were young and the family would stay at the old Gearhart hotel for a week each summer. She loved walking on the beach and enjoying the ocean breeze.
She embraced life with a sense of passion and adventure and she was loved by so many people who had the good fortune of being in her unique orbit. Betty’s best friend and someone she talked to on the phone daily was her daughter in law, Patricia Kehoe. She was instrumental in taking Betty to many doctor visits and helping with her care.
Betty’s three siblings, Doris Swenson, Thomas Celorie and Jeanne Mathis all predeceased her.
She was married to Daryl Kehoe and is survived by their four children, Michele Kehoe (Doug Crombie deceased), Michael Kehoe (Lorri), Matthew Kehoe (Patricia) and Martin Kehoe (Allison). Following the death of Daryl Kehoe, Betty was married to William Bassett. He predeceased Betty in 2014. Betty is also survived by ten grandchildren, Thomas Crombie, Katherine Crombie, Patrick Crombie (Lena), Brennan Crombie, Paige Kehoe, Brett Kehoe, Jack Kehoe, Katie Kehoe, Shannon Kehoe, Tess Kehoe and one great grandchild, Francis Crombie.
A private graveside service has been held. The family hopes to have a celebration of Betty’s life at a later date.
