Edward Donald Kane passed away peacefully January 7, 2019 at the age of 92. Mr. Kane was born in Sioux City, Iowa May 10, 1926 to James and Helen (Brown) Kane. He was raised in Springview, Nebraska where he and his parents farmed and raised livestock. He moved to Portland, OR in 1946.
Mr. Kane served in U.S. Navy during World War II and the Vietnam War. He continued in the Naval Reserve for 30 years, attaining the rate of Hull Technician Senior Chief. He served on the USS Columbia and USS McGinty.
Mr. Kane worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years, first as a postal clerk, then a Station Manager, and finally as a Postal Systems Examiner. He retired on 1981. He continued working for a few years at postal stations in Raleigh Hills and Gresham. He also worked at Portland Meadows during horse racing season, and the Multnomah Greyhound Racetrack.
Mr. Kane was an avid stamp collector, and a longtime member of The Beaver Stamp Club. He also belonged to the Order Of Runeberg Lodge for many years, and enjoyed being on a bowling league.
Mr. Kane had many hobbies and interest throughout the years such as gardening, hiking and exploring nature, taking scenic drives, and working on puzzles. He enjoyed collecting coins, John Deere toy tractors, and model trains. He also had a large collection of pigs and rooster figurines.
Mr. Kane loved his family, friends, God, and the church. He became a member at St Joseph’s Parish in the 1990’s and felt blessed to be a part of a community who loved God, and treated him like family.
Mr. Kane had a true love of animals and nature, a gentle heart, and a pure soul that was giving and kind.
Survivors include daughter, Grayce Shackleford; granddaughter, Nicole Anderson; daughters, Sue Benedetti, Pamela Pel, and Debi Ross; son, David Anderson; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
