Greta was born December 3, 1924 in the home her father built on Skyline Blvd in Northwest Portland. She was the seventh of ten children born to Oscar W and Fannie Lindahl. She passed at Miramont Pointe, a senior assisted living facility in Clackamas, Oregon on March 28, 2020 age 95.
For the first seventeen years of her life, she lived on Skyline Blvd initially attending the one room Munson School but graduation from Skyline Grade School in 1938. Greta attended and graduated from Scappoose High School in May 1942, left the farm and moved in with her sister, Mary, in a small apartment in NW Portland. She immediately went to work for the Army Induction Center processing forms necessary for the young men entering the Army for training and deployment in World War II. After that, she had several jobs ending up at Santry Tire Company for whom she worked for more than twenty-five years.
In 1947 she met and married Alvin K. Norton and in the following year gave birth to a son, Stephen R. Norton. He was to be their only child. Alvin preceded Greta in death, passing away August 10, 1980 after a long bout with cancer. She was also preceded in death by her six brothers and two of her sisters: Bertil, Donald, Leonard (Clint), Oscar (Bill), Robert, John, Mary and Esther. She is survived by her sister Joyce Richards, her son, two grandsons, two greatgrandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Greta was a kind Christian lady who lived a long and productive life. She will be loved, remembered and missed by her family, friends, and those she helped along her life’s journey. Her memorial will be held Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 2 pm at Finley Sunset Hill's Chapel, the anniversary of her passing.
