Joyce Evelyn Boyce (Brice) was born on February 19, 1979 in Gresham, Oregon to her parents, Keith and Janice Brice. She grew up with her siblings, Hellena and Andrew, playing numerous sports including soccer and basketball. She attended Sweetbriar Elementary, Reynolds High School, and Mt. Hood Community College before transferring to University of Oregon where she received a bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies.
Throughout her life, Joyce held many jobs. Starting from waiting tables at Shari’s while in high school, bartending at Edgefield while in college followed by Buster’s Barbeque and eventually becoming a stay at home mom for several years. During that time, she began helping her Aunt Deb and Uncle Chuck by driving to Tillamook to babysit her cousins, Charlie and Samantha. At the beginning of 2018, Joyce became an Admin Assistant and member of Teamsters Local 223. She worked at The Sheet Metal Institute, the apprenticeship for Sheet Metal Workers Local 16, where she got to work in the same building with her husband, Darrin. No matter where she worked, Joyce was a genuine person who had the ability to make you smile and feel welcome.
On July 17, 2006, Joyce married Darrin Boyce. The two met and fell in love over 16 years ago, and together have three beautiful children: Lola, Veronica, and Miller.
Joyce always loved reading a good book. She fell in love with cooking, especially baking, as she grew older. Anyone who knew of Joyce Boyce knew how good her food was. Next to cooking her favorite thing was to make people, especially her kids, laugh.
Joyce was a very generous person, always having empathy for others. After a few years of sending her kids to St. Rose she decided to become Catholic. She was the food train coordinator that would set up food trains for parishioners going through a rough time or had a baby. She would usually bake something if asked, even if she did not know who it was for. St. Rose delivers sack lunches to food shelters and Joyce participated. Though it was overwhelming at first getting three kids ready for school, she always managed to make a few extra lunches to take. One day she helped deliver the lunches to the shelters. Once she saw the people in need in person, Joyce had a mission. Many people don’t know, but over the last few years she would make 20, sometimes 50, sack lunches once a month and drive around town with the kids and hand them out to the homeless in person. This is a tradition we will do our best to continue.
Joyce was a healthy and strong person her whole life. Prior to getting colon cancer, she was in the hospital only three times, and that was to give birth to her three children. She never got sick. She started having stomach pain and was not diagnosed until December 7, 2018. She fought all the way up until the end.
Left to cherish her memory: husband, Darrin Russell Boyce; children, Lola Mary Boyce, Veronica Sue Boyce, and Miller Allen Boyce; parents, Keith and Janice Brice; siblings, Hellena Brice and Andrew Brice; grandmother, Joyce Mundorff; dog, Stewart; and numerous other extended family members and close friends.
