

A service will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, May 14, 2012 in Skyline Memorial Gardens for Judith “Judy” Ann Leckman who passed away at age 76 on May 4, 2012 in Portland, Oregon. Judith Rummel was born on October 14, 1935 in Walnut Grove, Missouri to Wayne and Lucille (Brady) Rummel. Judy grew up in Walnut Grove the first 10 years of her life before a job opportunity became available for her father at the Shipyards in Portland during World War II.
Growing up she was involved in the drama club at school, extremely artistic and did needle point work. Judy attended Portsmouth Grade School (now known as Cesar Chavez Elementary) and graduated in 1948 from Roosevelt High School. After high school she got a job at Swift and Company meatpacking where she worked for 10 years.
Judy met John J. Leckman Jr. at The Lombard Tavern, on a $5.00 bet from John’s friends that he could not get a date with her. John ended up winning that bet and they were married on June 8, 1957.
At a young age Judy had heart surgery and was told she would never be able to have children, she decided to anyway and was blessed with two. She was devoted to her children and was very active with their activities. She was a Den Mother, Camp Fire Girl leader, DeMolay, Job’s Daughters in addition to many other activities. Both She and John Jr. were very involved with Portland Community Service, The Portland Police Athletic Association for 33 years and after retirement they were the curators of the Police Museum. But most of all Judy loved time with her family and was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her spouse of 54 years John J. Leckman Jr.; son, John J. Leckman III; daughter, Karrie L. McGuire; grandchildren, John J. Leckman IV, Ryan W. McGuire, Mallory R. McGuire, Jayson A. Leckman and Nicole E. McGuire.
