He was born in Boston on September 17, 1928, the son of Carl and Kathrina (Sessler) Dorrwachter.
He was the husband of the late Mary (Hughes) Dorrwachter and long-time companion of Linda Zambarano of Coventry.
Father of Jeanne M. McAreavey and Robert J. Tracey; Step-father of Mary A. Halliwell, Susan J. Hinkley, Stephen D. Naismith, and the late David J. Naismith, Jr. Grandfather of 10; Great-Grandfather of 9. Brother of the late Karl Dorrwachter and Irene James. He was “Dad” to his late beloved “Suzie”, his Yorkie Terrier, and also leaves many very close cousins and extended family.
He served in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Quonset Point, RI, and graduated from Northeastern University as an accountant under the G.I Bill. Al worked for over 40 years in the finance department of the Reardon and Lynch Co., Attleboro, MA. He also worked over 50 years as a Broker for several Realty agencies in the Attleboro area. During his lifetime he resided in Walpole and Attleboro, MA; Warwick, RI; and most recently Coventry, RI.
Al was a multi-talented “Mr. Fix-it” who could create and fix everything ranging from plumbing and heating installations and repairs, basic woodworking and finished carpentry, car maintenance, electric repairs, general home repair, and everything in-between. He loved travelling and dancing, working as a part-time ballroom dancing instructor, and spending time at his vacation home in Delaware with his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrance donations can be made in Al’s name to St. Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Avenue, Providence, RI 02909.
Due to Covid-19, visitation, funeral, and burial services will be private. Burial will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
