Dora Petrella, 88, of Gesler Street, Providence passed away March 6, 2019. Born in Italy, she was the daughter of the late Gioacchino and Maria Petrella.
In Italy, Miss Petrella overcame the challenges of being handicapped and worked hard at becoming an embroiderer. She was also a former Parochial Catechist, President of della Azione Cattolica Femmile.
She came to the United States in 1961 and became a seamstress for many years before retiring. She was a devoted communicant of Holy Ghost Church for over 50 years where she was also a volunteer and lector. She was also very active in the community; co-founder of Circolo Giovanni XIII of Holy Ghost in 1969, becoming member of the year in 1974 and honorary member in 1997. She was a volunteer for the Holy Ghost Day Care for 17 years, as well as the Citizens Center of Federal Hill House and a 2008 Commanders Club Gold Leader recipient for the Disabled American Veterans.
Dora was devoted to her family and friends and loved them deeply.
She was the sister of Michele “Mike” Petrella and the late Rolando and Giuseppe Petrella, Orsola “Lilly” Natal, Giovanna LoPresti and Elena Balassone and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday at 8:45 am from the ROMANO FUNERAL HOME, 627 Union Avenue, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Holy Ghost Church, 1 Knight Street, Providence.
