

Providence Dorothy F. Brothers, 87, of Eighth Street, died Tuesday at Cedar Crest Nursing Centre, Cranston. She was the wife of the late Raymond F. Brothers to whom she was married for fifty years. Born in East Providence, a daughter of the late Jerome E. and Margaret F. (McLaughlin) Monahan, she lived in Providence most of her life. Dorothy assisted her mother in raising her five brothers after the death of her father at an early age. As a communicant, and volunteer, at Saint Raymond Church, Providence, Dorothy organized C.Y.O. dances, and was active with the Cub Scout and Girl Scout Organizations. She was a member of the Irish Ceilidhe Club of Rhode Island She vacationed at Sand Hill Cove for almost forty years, and enjoyed having family, grandchildren, friends, and neighbors gather for cookouts at the beach house. Mrs. Brothers worked at the Miriam Hospital for thirty years, until the age of 82, before retiring, then volunteered for two more years. She leaves three sons, Raymond F. Brothers Jr and his wife Brenda, Richard Brothers and his wife Linda, Robert E. Brothers (Lt.CPD) and his wife Eileen; a daughter, Dorothy J. Meehan and her husband John; two brothers, Robert Monahan and Edward Monahan; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Marjorie A. Brothers, grandmother of the late Christopher J. Meehan, and sister of the late Thomas, Jerome, and Charles Monahan. The funeral will be held Saturday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Matthew Church, Elmwood Avenue, Cranston. Burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours, Friday, 4 - 8 pm.
