Floyd Dayton Word, age 87, died Thursday, July 19, 2018, at his home in Minor Hill. He was born in Lauderdale County, AL, on March 15, 1931, retired from TVA and Gabriel, a member of Booth Chapel Church of Christ, the North Alabama Beagle Club, and the founding father of Minor Hill Walking Horse and Saddle Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Franklin and Lela Bell Russ Word, his son, Morris Word, his brother, Arnold Word, and his sisters, Mauveline Schmittou, Omie Lee Thigpen and Louise Clark Moore. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018, until the Funeral Service begins at 12:00 noon at Carr & Erwin Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Minor Hill Cemetery with full Military Honors. Survivors include his wife, Lenora Word of Minor Hill, TN, his daughter, Phyllis Smith and Tom of Leoma, TN, his brothers, Travis Word of Anderson, AL and Frank Word of Rogersville, AL, his sisters, Dottie Chumbley of Pulaski, Sue Strickland of Pulaski, Judy Jackson of Smyrna, and Nela Norton of Smyrna, his grandchildren, Zachary Smith, Jamie Collins, Hannah Beth Robbins, and Joshua Smith, his great grandchild, Mela Smith.
