My Uncle Hugh told the best stories. It seemed as though he remembered everything, especially when it came to his nephew and nieces. All my memories from my childhood are based on stories my uncle told me, and I like to think they are funnier and more epic because of him. I miss you dearly Uncle Hugh.

I can't remember any occasion that I saw my uncle Hugh or spent time with him where he didn't make me smile. He was always so funny and so loving, always ready with either a good memory, a joke, or some words of encouragement and guidance. He loved my sisters and I as though we were his own children, and in his passing I truly miss his presence, which, no matter how big I got, always brought me back to being a kid again. I love you Uncle Hugh.

To others Hugh was a son, brother, husband, uncle, friend, neighbor, or any number of roles. Although I almost always thought of Hugh in relationship to Lucy, what made him most dear to me was that he was my brother in the Lord. Hugh's portion was always rich and overflowing. This was truly a man who was ready in season or out to share God's Word. Sometimes I wondered how anyone could contain so much! I will always remember his character, his love for the Lord, and how much he cherished his family. Thank You, Lord, for sharing this precious one with us in this age. And thank You for Your prevailing mercy and peace to all of Hugh's loved ones.

When I think of Hugh, I remember a brother and person who was never in the background. You always knew when Hugh was there. Hugh was full of energy, boldness, humor, and perhaps most of all, love. The impression of his presence and character remains with those whose lives he touched. I thank the Lord that I had the opportunity to know him and serve with him. May we continue to be comforted by the knowledge that Hugh is in paradise, at peace.

Hugh was one of a kind. As a big brother he was so protective, and I loved every minute of it. I love him and I know that he loved me. I trust that heaven is exactly as he anticipated and that he is at peace. My deepest condolences to everyone who mourns his passing. I'll see you on the other side, Hugh!

I was fortunate to meet Hugh at a very young age on his frequent visits to California as he is the big brother of my dear friend Patricia. Hugh made a comment at dinner one evening telling one of us kids to "eat our corn" so we grow big and strong. After all these years we still quote him at the dinner table..;) Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family....

Hugh was a very dear friend of mine and a deeply caring and compassionate man.
He extended his love and friendship to my family and was there for us in the truest sense. He defined friendship and dedication to those he loved. I will miss him deeply.

I first met Hugh on my wedding day. He shook my hand so hard I thought he broke it. And, he told me to take care of his sister, Patricia. Message received. My thoughts and prayers, and those of the Hrvatin family, are with Lucy, Hugh's parents, siblings, friends -- all those he touched with his warm and gentle spirit.

I was stunned and saddened to hear about the passing of Hugh. I will always treasure the memories of growing up in B'klyn with Kathleen and Hugh and Dad Assevero (Mr. Cool). My deepest sympathy go out to his wife Lucille, Kathleen, and Dad Assevero. Much love and prayers.
