He was born in Fort Lewis Military Base, Washington to the late Edmund and Barbary Purdy. Upon finishing high school, he graduated from The University of Pennsylvania and received his graduate degree from Syracuse University.
Ed participated in many marathons, including Montreal, Boston, New York City, and the Army Ten – Miler in Washington, D.C. He was a world-wide member of the Hash House Harriers, and the Sir Walter’s Hash House Harriers in Raleigh. He made many dear friends through his joy of running and golfing at Mill Creek Golf Course in Mebane.
Ed is survived by his wife, Jane Lawrence Purdy, his children Jason (Heather) & Jared and granddaughter Hailey and also his brother, David (Carol).
