Helen Theba McInnis Thornton passed away peacefully at Cadence Assisted Living of North Raleigh on Sunday, November 3rd, 2019. Theba was born on June 9, 1934, to Clay W. Sr. and Lillian Apple McInnis. Theba graduated from Pleasant Garden High School in 1952. She worked for many years as a Secretary for Dr. Kennedy at the UNC-G Graduate School. Afterward, she began working as legal assistant and she continued to work part-time until she was 78 years old at a graphic printing company in Greensboro, NC.
She was an avid gardener and took great joy in making her home and outdoor spaces beautiful and welcoming. She also enjoyed attending the Pleasant Garden Lady Bugs (Red Hat Society). She was preceded in death by her beloved sisters Roberta Brice, Jean Walldroff, Ruth (Ruthie) Lemons, Rebecca (Becky) House, Elizabeth (Libby) Britton, and Rea Theressa Pruitt (TP) . She was also preceded death by her beloved brothers J. Robert (Bob) McInnis, Clay (Sonny) McInnis, and John (Johnny) McInnis. She is survived by her son Charles Simon of Phoenix, AZ and her daughter Teresa Carpenter of Raleigh, NC and one sister, Ellen Wood of Mayodan, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jeremy Smith, Elijah Smith and his wife Rachel Smith all of Raleigh, NC. She also has many nieces, nephews and friends whom she held dear. Theba will be greatly missed by her family and everyone who knew her. A memorial service will be planned for Theba at a later date. Details will be forthcoming.
The family would like to extend thanks to the employees at Cadence Assisted Living and Transitions Life Care for their loving care of Theba during her time with them. They would also like to thank all those who visited, sent prayers and good thoughts, and showed compassion and support during her illness.
