Irene Reynolds Roberts, 95, died October 15, 2013 at Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh. Born in Ashland, Wisconsin, on August 5, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Victor Earl Reynolds and Alice Kruse Reynolds. In 1940 Irene graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in dietetics. Following graduation she did a dietetic internship at the University of Minnesota Hospital.
In 1941 she and William Milner Roberts got married and moved to Raleigh in 1943 when Dr. Roberts joined the faculty at NC State University.
The Roberts spent most of their adult lives in Raleigh where Irene was involved in a variety of activities including being an active member of West Raleigh Presbyterian Church. Further she was a leader for both Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. For a number of years she was employed as a substitute teacher for the Raleigh Public Schools and NC School for the Blind and taught School Lunch Room Supervisors at Wake County Community College.
Above all Irene was a devoted partner to her husband, and she dedicated her life to providing a wonderful life for her family.
Irene was predeceased by her husband of 64 years. She is survived by three children: Carolyn Clifton (Tom Beason) of Winston Salem, NC; William Roberts (Joyce) of Elk Creek, VA; and Jean Kitchin (Hodge) of Scotland Neck, NC; six grandsons, Chris Clifton (Michelle) and Andy Clifton (Meredith) of Winston Salem, NC; Will Roberts (Ele) of Raleigh; Drew Roberts (Laura) of Baltimore, MD; Mercer Rowe (Angela) of Santa Cruz, CA; Brent Rowe (Stacy) of Palo Alto, CA; and 8 great grandchildren. The family also wishes to acknowledge Morris Gordon of Springmoor, a special friend to Irene.
The service will be on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at 11 am in the Springmoor Auditorium, and visitation will be held immediately afterwards. Interment will follow at a later date in Sharon, TN.
