Jene Hale Carter

Jene Hale Carter, 83, passed away on October 11, 2020 at Duke Raleigh Hospital following complications from a stroke. Born on October 21, 1936 in Roanoke, Virginia; she was the daughter of the late Edward Claytor Hale and Louise Elizabeth “Bo” Richardson Hale.

Before retiring, Jene worked for many years in hotel management in Wilmington, NC, and in Roanoke, VA. Prior to her initial stroke several years ago, Jene was an active member of of the Order of the Eastern Star with dual memberships with Etta Chapter #185 and Primary Hillcrest Chapter #159, where she had served as Worthy Matron. She and her husband Bob moved to Raleigh to be closer to her daughter and grandson.

Jene is survived by her husband, Robert T. “Bob” Carter II; daughter Bethany and Mark Clements, of Raleigh; and one grandson, Henry Clements of Raleigh.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Judith Scearce of Roanoke, Virginia, and survived by a sister, Janet Ettore of Brick, New Jersey.

Private Services will be arranged for a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center.

I am so sorry to hear about Jene. She was a beautiful lady. I enjoyed many fond memories together with Jene and Bob when they lived in Roanoke and were active in the Kazim Shrine.
