Louise Isabel Peters Barnwell Nials Sunrise was May 15th 1935 and her sunset was November 29th 2018. She was born to James Zephenia Peters and Alberta Ramsey in a Berbice, Guyana in a New Amsterdam Hospital, this was during the height of the Great Depression. Her Father died before she was 1 and her mother died when she was 4 years old. She was blessed to be adopted by her Aunt Carrie in Berbice, Guyana. She grew beautifully, and entered a nurse’s training school in 1956 and she finished in the early 1960’s. Around that time she met her first husband, Ernest Barnwell and produced her first 3 children Ernest, Angela, and Rawle. In 1968 she was asked to immigrate to America to continue her nursing career. She ended the relationship with Mr. Barnwell and met and married Mr. Herbert Nials in 1969 of which she began making the next set of her beautiful children, Matthew, James, and Marsha. Louise was most proud of all her children.

Louise worked for over 40 years as a nurse, and many of it working 2 jobs for 16 to 20 hours a day. She was an exceptional nurse and won many awards for her service and skill in both private and public hospitals in New York City. She was a counselor to friends, children, extended family, co-workers, and even strangers. She was an avid cook especially on Saturdays when she had time-off from work. Her favorite dishes were black pudding, mettigie, seafood soup, curry goat, and homemade bread of which members of our extended family used to visit us just to enjoy her cooking. She was also known for her generosity, and her infectious smile. After her retirement from Harlem hospital in 2000 there were numerous calls for her to volunteer her time, knowledge, and expertise to today’s nurses. To this day doctors still revered her name as one of best head nurses in the hospitals that she worked in.

She is survived by her brother Ludwig Moton Ramsey, her 6 children Ernest, Angela, Rawle, Matthew, James, and Marsha. She has 2 daughter-in-law’s Marie, and Shamaine, 12 grandchildren Kamilah, Khalid, Kaylah, Ruqayya, Adam, Isaiah, Orion, Rawle Jr, Matthew Jr., Jada, James Jr. Lakella, and 5 great grandchildren Izayah, Amir, Saniyah, Noah and Madison, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
