Melba Blackmon Golightly of Raleigh passed away December 5th at the age of 94. Mrs. Golightly was born on April 4, 1924 in Charlotte to Jasper and Betty Blackmon. After high school, she learned secretarial skills and proudly went to work during WWII. She met William T. Golightly in church after he returned from serving in the Army overseas. They married after a short courtship on November 23, 1946.
Mrs. Golightly dedicated her life to her husband and raising her three daughters in a loving, Christian home. She enjoyed being active in the church, The Woman’s Club, volunteering, gardening, sewing, baking and painting.
She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Carol and Lynn Wiggs, Janet and Rick Keller, and Linda Moser. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Meredith Horner, Matthew Wiggs, Jessica Woodworth, Justin Keller, Adam Keller, Erin Huggins, Rachel Moser and ten great-grandchildren.
She was a positive, funny, creative, selfless daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be terribly missed by all.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM with a visitation immediately following on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 in the chapel of Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Building Fund at Trinity Baptist Church.
