I have had the pleasure of knowing Nanjund since 1995 when we first moved to RTP. We have had many pleasant conversations and social interactions since then but the ones most memorable to me were the ones when he got admitted to Duke the first time. I paid him a short visit to check on him and I could tell he looked forward to more company. I visited him again within that week and spent a lot more time with him. The doctors had advised him to walk and so we walked many "laps" near the helipad. And all he talked was about Pragna. He was so proud of her and her achievements, and rightfully so.
Nanjund has left behind a lasting legacy. He motivated us all to register, contribute and donate to the BeTheMatch foundation. We wouldn't have known or cared about this until Nanjund needed it, and now that foundation registry is richer by hundreds of more South Asians. Some day, some other patient will owe their life to Nanjund.
May his soul rest in eternal peace and may God grant Shantala, Pragna, his mother and his grieving family the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.

I had known Nanjundeswar (dearly known to us as Babu) from the day he was born. The memories of the times I spent with him are many and precious. I spoke to my sister (his mother) about our childhood memories. She reminded me of the time I took him on my bicycle to our house when he was only three years old.
It is hard for me to believe that he is not with us anymore.
With a heavy heart I say goodbye to my nephew.
His uncle Jayanna.
