Dr. William Wilfred Buisch, DVM, 75, born in Lyons, N.Y., passed away peacefully at his home on August 17, 2019. He is survived by his best friend, Duane Martin, and his four children, Amory Cariadus (Jen), Julie Moreland (Tom), Richard Buisch (Michele), and Anna Pierce (Shawn). He was the proud and loving grandfather of eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Lyn Schuck, Grace Ardieta (Jack), Sarah Brem (Steve) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Wilfred Stauffer Buisch and Ethel Edna Schoen.
Bill graduated from Kansas State University with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). He enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an international veterinarian with the United States Department of Agriculture and retired as Senior Executive Service (SES).
Bill’s strong faith and his love of animals inspired him to publish his memoirs in “The Ark’s Cargo: For the Love of Animals.” In the book, Bill describes the challenges he faced in achieving his dream of becoming a veterinarian, as well as his extensive travels working around the world. He wrote of his experiences working in the poverty-stricken areas of Haiti, the jungles of Panama, the areas of Colombia controlled by drug lords, the Philippines, South Korea and even with the wild mustangs in Colorado and Nevada.
Bill explained, “Having four children that I dearly love, it soon became clear that I needed to somehow share with them and my grandchildren my profound love for animals.” Inspired by Biblical passages and teachings, he had a passion for improving the health and welfare of domesticated and wild animals. He was driven to improve, to the best of his ability, the health, welfare and productivity of animals. Working with diverse cultures, he observed vast health improvements in animals and, as a result, in the people living nearby.
Bill was also a skilled piano player and was known to entertain family and friends playing the piano and accordion and, during special times, with his singing. His family fondly remembers one of his favorites – the German folk song titled “Du, Du Liegst Mir Im Herzen,” which means “You, you’re lying in my heart.”
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Peace Church located at 1777 W. Chatham Street Cary, NC 27513 with Pastor Blake Hickman officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to Trinity Park Church, 14001 Weston Parkway Suite 122 Cary, NC 27513.
