William D. Midgette, 82, of Raleigh died Tuesday at his home surrounded by his family. One of 10 children, William was born in Durham to the late L.F. and Eula Midgette. After graduating from high school, Bill entered the U.S. Navy and served during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired from the Navy after 22 years of service. Bill then began a career with Farm Bureau Insurance and retired after 20 years of service. He was a loving father and a hard-working provider for his family.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Phyllis Kelly Midgette in 2010, as well as five brothers and one sister.
Surviving are his three children; daughter, Kathy Midgette Parsons (Jack) of Winston- Salem; son, Jody Midgette (Mary) of Clayton and daughter, Stacie Midgette King (George) of Knightdale; 6 grandchildren: Allison Smith (Chris), Colton Parsons, Joshua Parsons, Andy Welliver, James Midgette and Holly Midgette; as well as great-granddaughter, Savannah Smith. Also surviving are three sisters: Martha Upchurch, Celia Lawrence and Mary Lou Lee.
A memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 4pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary’s St. Raleigh. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County Veteran's Memorial Garden in Bill's name, 250 Hospice Cir., Raleigh, NC 27607.
