She was born November 8, 1928, in Girard, Ohio, to parents Raymond and Josephine McAllister. Anita was a former long time member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Kent where she married her husband, Jerry in April 1949. She loved being around children, and after raising her ten children, she volunteered for many years and was known as “Grandma” by the kids at Kent State University’s Nixon Hall Day Care/Preschool, Children’s Village Day Care, and Longcoy Elementary School (Kent), where she earned the Fred Doseck Layman’s Award. She was a voracious reader, loved to play cards, travel, and go out to lunch, especially if ice cream was for dessert.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald “Jerry” Gump, son Kenneth Gump, daughter Deborah Green, sisters Loretta Carpenter and Mary Lou Wise.
She is survived by her children: Cathy (Alvin) Gorham, Denise Eagle, Maureen Watson, Edward Gump (Jennifer), William Gump, Nadine (Dan) Saldana, Judith Wilke, and Sherry (Todd) Blair, as well as her 19 grandchildren, her many great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson. Anita is also survived by sister-in-law Karen (Jim) Roach and brother-in-law, Tom Fisher.
Per her wishes, Anita was laid to rest beside her husband at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.wood-kortright-borkoski.com.
Anita’s family would like to thank Haven Home’s staff for over 3 years of loving and nurturing care and Serenity Hospice, as well as her “adopted” daughter Linda Hile for her monthly cards that brightened Anita’s day for 10 years.
