Martin “Marty” J. Gut, 86, of Rootstown, Ohio, born October 29, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio, our gift from God, passed away July 18, 2018 at University Hospital in Ravenna, Oh with his wife Joan by his side.
The son of Joseph and Victoria Gut, he graduated from East Tech High School in Cleveland, OH. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Korea. Marty married Joan Peters on November 14, 1953. He was a draftsman and retired after 25 years with Kennametal in Solon, Oh. He also served on the Rootstown Zoning Commission for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan, and his children: Michael Gut, Kathy (Fred) Herman, Cindy (Bruce) Hensley, Steven Gut (deceased), Dennis Gut and Monica (Dave, deceased) Butler. He has seven grandchildren; Nichole (Dave) English, Brian (Christy) Hensley, Alisha and Nathan Gut, Taylor (Scott) Smith, Molly Gut and Mason Butler. He has 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Surviving also are his brother Greg (Jan) Gut and sister Barbara (Matt, deceased) Looby.
Marty loved attending all sporting events of his large family. He was twice honored as the Athletic Booster of the Year at Rootstown High School. His favorite pastime was reading and watching his ‘maybe next year’ Browns.
Friends will be received on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at St. Peter of the Fields Church, 3487 Old Forge Rd., Rootstown, Ohio from 10:00am until the 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Rev. David Misbrener.
