Adolph Rogan

It is with sadness that the family of Adolph Rogan announces his passing on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the age of 101. Left to cherish his memory are his grandsons Ian (Nicki Chow) and Eric, their mother Margaret, and his many nieces and nephews.

Adolph was born in Cyców, Poland, on February 23, 1922, to parents Julian Rogan and Wanda (Henke) Rogan. His family came to Canada in 1927 and settled in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, where he grew up. World War 2 saw Adolph in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands from 1943 to 1946 as part of the 3rd Medium Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery. After the war, Adolph returned to Yorkton to work as a house painter. At a youth gathering, Adolph met the love of his life, Agnes Liebrecht. They were married November 1, 1950, and soon after moved to Melville, where Adolph began a 30-year career as a locomotive engineer with the Canadian National Railway.

On July 28, 1958, Agnes and Adolph welcomed their son David, who was their pride and joy. Life was good – Adolph spent his leisure time at family gatherings, on fishing trips, gardening, golfing, curling, playing billiards, and was an active Legion member. Agnes and Adolph were also long-time members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where they contributed to the life of the church community. Adolph and Agnes moved to Regina in 2005 to be closer to their son and two grandsons. Ever the active community member, Adolph spent many hours volunteering as a caller for bingo and collecting the offerings at the weekly church service.

The past years have seen many good times, but there have also been sorrows – David passed away in 2015, and after 66 years of marriage, Adolph was saddened by the death of Agnes in 2016. He was also predeceased by his six brothers and sisters: Gus, Phil, Ed, Henry, Lydia, and Helen.

Adolph continued to read and do puzzles into his senior years and was active, especially in the summer, walking around the lake and checking on the geese. Though his memory may have started to fail him later in life, Adolph remained sharp and bright and never missed an opportunity to share a wisecrack joke, a charming compliment, or a warm smile. The family thanks everyone involved in Adolph’s care, especially friend Mavis de Bruin.

A celebration of Adolph’s life will be held at Victoria Avenue Funeral Home, 2080 East Victoria Avenue, Regina on Saturday, October 28 at 12:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by Pastor Darlene Harrison and Legion Honours will be provided by the Melville Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, where Adolph will be reunited with his wife Agnes.
