Gary David Liput, 67, of Richmond, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 27, 2019, after a year-long battle with multiple myeloma. Gary was born on a U.S. Army base in Frankfurt, Germany, on July 30, 1952, to parents Stanley Liput and Dorothy Johanides Liput.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Wendy Liput and beloved son Samuel Liput, both of Richmond, Virginia. He also leaves behind his brother Richard Liput of Florida, as well as other extended family in Florida. Gary has gone to his eternal home to be once more reunited with his parents and brother Kenneth Liput.
Gary graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University before moving to Titusville and Orlando, Florida, where he met his wife, and the two of them raised their son in both the Atlanta and Tampa areas, eventually relocating back to Richmond in 2013. His spiritual path was similarly full-circle, having been raised Catholic and exploring various other denominations before returning home to the Catholic faith ten years ago.
Always an active member of the community, Gary made friends wherever he went. As a former Jaycee and a third-degree Knight of Columbus, he displayed an infectious love of others, even those he only knew in passing. He also loved the outdoors, especially waterfalls and kayaking, and would often take long walks in nearby parks to enjoy the natural beauty of God’s creation. He was fond of the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, and “The Twilight Zone” TV marathons, and his favorite movies were the “Back to the Future” trilogy and “It’s a Wonderful Life.” The quote from the latter film that always touched him most deeply was, “Remember no man is a failure who has friends.” Gary was living proof of that.
His family would like to thank all of Gary’s dear friends at St. Bridget Catholic Church for their support and love, as well as Capital Caring Hospice and the medical staff at Henrico Doctors Hospital-Forest for their care during his final days.
A funeral service for Gary will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 24, 2020, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 6006 Three Chopt Road, Richmond, VA 23226.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary’s memory to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, PO Box 98018, Washington DC 20090-8018, https://www.lls.org.
