Purks, Russell C, age 93, originally of Richmond, Virginia, passed away Friday January 4, 2013 in Valrico, FL surrounded by his family, caregiver and friends from Life Path Hospice. He is survived by daughter, Sandra Rosner and her husband Steve; two sisters in law, Doris Steinbrecher and Barbara Vass (Joe) and a niece Cynthia Murphy (Grayson and daughter Megan) all of Virginia as well as several cousins and a dear friend and trusted caregiver Sharon Brown. He was a long time member of First English Lutheran Church and was very active in the Sunday school programs in his early years. He was married to the “love of his life” Grace Schneider for 60 years who preceded him in death in 2001. He was employed for more than 49 years by the Kohler Company starting in 1936 as a plumbing fixture salesman and retired in 1986 having successfully served as a Regional Manager in various parts of the country. He had several hobbies, namely fishing; model trains, golf, and for over 50 years was an avid amateur radio operator well known in more than 200 countries by his call sign K4BCN. He proudly served with honors as a 1st LT in the US Army during WWII. The family will receive friends in a celebration of his life from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, January 8th at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, VA. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday January 9th in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to Life Path Hospice, 3010 W Azeele St., Tampa FL 33609.
