Known to his family and friends as Mickey, Mick, or Bill - he was born in Coral Gables, FL on October 18, 1945 and grew up at several military posts around the world. He started his career in the Air Force as a medic and then moved on to various roles in the healthcare industry, including being a hospital administrator and building kidney dialysis units.
Bill was a man with a great sense of humor, strong opinions, and a unique way with words. He was both a sweetheart and a terror. His temper and command of four-letter words were legendary. Bill loved the water and lived for many years at Grandview Beach in Hampton, VA. He was an avid fisherman, woodworker, and artist. He listened to all types of music, made a mean mixtape, and loved to dance. He was drawn to lighthouses, building fires, and tending the hearth.
Bill is survived by his wife, Linda Burcham; his daughters, Shannon McKennon and Kristen Sommerfeld; his stepdaughters, Stacy Slavik and Ariauna Albright; grandchildren, Natalja Sommerfeld, Aiden Slavik, and Seth Slavik; sisters, Betty Jones and Marian Bach; and many other beloved relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed.
A private Celebration of Life ceremony will be held in lieu of a funeral service.
