DAPHNE VICTORIA FORBES was born on January 7, 1937 in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, the third born of eleven children to Benjamin James Forbes and Iris Anetta Nicholas Forbes. She had four brothers and six sisters and could easily be described as a caring and nurturing figure, quiet in her shyness but stern when needed to be. She loved to cook, bake and eat and could always be found in the kitchen filling the house with the delectable aromas of fresh-made bread, her famous flour tortillas, and special Caribbean dishes that were enjoyed by many throughout her lifetime.
After moving to Los Angeles in 1984, Daphne graduated with her associate degree in nursing and went on to have a successful career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) that spanned over 25 years. She first worked as a private nurse for reputable families in the Los Angeles area, and when she and her daughter’s family moved to Riverside, California in 1993, she worked at Orange Tree Nursing Center where she provided the best quality care to her patients and gained the admirable reputation of always being a kind, patient, compassionate and gifted nurse.
A lover of all sports, Daphne enjoyed watching everything from figure ice skating and basketball to hockey, golf and USC football, but she always cheered on her number one beloved baseball team, the Los Angeles Dodgers. She would attend the ballpark on occasion to enjoy her favorite Dodger dogs and peanuts. She was also known for having an extravagant yet classy taste in fashion, style and wardrobe. Even if there was no special occasion, she could always be found matching from head to toe with her nails, makeup and hair done.
After a series of numerous health complications, Daphne passed away peacefully in her sleep at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Marlene Yoné Castro, three granddaughters, Daphne Talhia Areta-Cedillo, Anne Victoria Areta and Joan Marie Areta, and grandson-in-law, Angel Cedillo. She also leaves behind her siblings: Joyce Forbes, Pearl Forbes, C. Forbes Barton, George Forbes and Dr. Neville Forbes and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she loved dearly.
Beloved by all who knew her, Daphne will be remembered for her sweet and gentle ways. She touched many people's lives through her kindness, generosity and soft-spoken personality which made her a Grandma-figure to many. Her laugh was contagious, and she always made everyone feel welcomed and loved. Although she is no longer with us physically on this earth, we know that she is resting in eternal peace with our Lord Savior and will continue to live forever within the hearts of those who knew her and loved her.
