Emmett was like a father to me.  I will never forget the time(s) I spent with him.  He was a very special man.

Dad,
I have Just returned home from laying you rest , I am have a a little time to reflect on remembering the good times we shared and the generosity you showed me as your son..

My earliest memory of you goes back to when I was little boy and you bought me a new pair of sneakers.  We got home and raced each other up the driveway and you let me win .  You told me how fast I was in the new shoes.

I will always remember the times we went fishing in the  reservoir and shooting at the range and playing golf in Virginia and California  We did that quite a few times ,  Sometimes we used to go get donuts afterwards.

I will remember the times you and Mom came to visit me and Kim where ever we were living at the time.  I we especially remember the trip to visit us in Upstate NY and when we went to the finger lake wineries.  At one called Bully Hill you told the guys at the bar that it was Kim's Birthday and the whole place sang her happy birthday. We all laughed because that was in July and Kim's Birthday is in November.

Your generosity was sometimes surprising too. The time when I needed money to fix up the townhouse to sell it and you helped me out and let me pay you back after I sold the sold the house. Then there is the Suzuki motorcycle that you bought me .  I rode that over the place in California.  

I think my favorite  memory  is just how much you loved being around your immediate family.  Whether it was just sharing a glass of wine on  skype or being around the family  for the holidays . That is when you were you happiest. 

Your a good Man , you were honest , hardworking and believed in doing the right thing.  I love you and I  will miss you.  

Rest in Peace.  

My long association with motorcycles began when Dad brought home a shiny, almost new,  BSA motorcycle back in the late Fifties.  Even Mom thought it was beautiful! That bike began a legacy that continues to this day with a "Beezer in the Barn" (my garage actually). 

Dad was a straight forward, sincere, honest and all-around decent man who always tried to do the right thing. I got to know him well over many Manhattans we shared while visiting at his place  after Mom passed.  He had an appreciation for class, whether in an individual or in  the  world around him. He was also surprisingly compassionate.   Once while on a deer hunt.  he found himself alone an a hillside  when suddenly a deer walked out of the bushes almost right in front of him.  He said he considered taking the shot, but found he just couldn't shoot that deer and so let  it  go on it's way.

 His drive and intellect took him from the bloody hills of Okinawa to a Directorship of Communications in Washington D.C.   Quite an achievement for a man with humble beginnings and a much less than Ivy League education.

 And when I mention "drive" I'm speaking literally as well as figuratively.  Few men on Planet Earth loved cars and driving cars (especially Buicks) as much as Dad.
 20,000 +miles/year...….no problem!

The words “missing you” are not enough. I lost my father (your twin brother) more than 35 years ago. Over the years, I’ve shared with you my accomplishments, challenges, and goals.  You’ve listened, guided, and when I asked for it, given me your advise.  You have been the father I needed. 
I often recall our many conversations about the military, motorcycles and retirement. I’ve told everyone I know about you, my amazing uncle.  I’ve always been proud to be your nephew...I love you.  Michael

My memories of you, Emmett, started late in both our lives: when I married your nephew, Michael. You were such an inspiration, always the friend, confidant and faithful correspondent we both needed over the years. I loved our emails and phone calls and all the lovely visits we shared; we laughed and cried together many times. Now you are only a thought away; you are at home with your beloved. I miss you so much already here in the physical world, but the memories we shared are forever in my heart.  I love you, Emmett. See you soon. 

Dad, thanks for the memories of picnics in Big Bear and the desert.  Teaching me to ride my first motorcycle in Barstow. Learning to shoot a .22 pistol and rifle are great memories.  The several trips to Subic Bay and the experience of being in a foreign county are great reminders of times togetherness .  I want to express my gratitude for letting me go and believing in me.  You were an inspiration to me to never give up even when it seemed hopeless.

It was good to see you and Mom at our house every so often and spend the holidays with you.  Now you are in a better place and can be with your family again.  We miss you and send our love!

I will never forget you and grandma coming to visit my family on Sunday afternoons in San Diego, the advice you had for a young teenager finding his way in life, going plinking with you and dad in the hills behind aunt Kathy's house in Barstow, hearing about your experiences in the Marine Corps and being at Pearl Harbor on the morning of the attack, and also the Pacific island campaigns during WW2, and of course checking out the latest new car you just purchased. We share a similar passion for our four wheeled vehicles, and it will always remain with me, as it did for you. I must say at times there is definitely a little bit (well actually a lot as I get older) of E.C.R. in me, and its because of the time in life I got to spend growing up with you grandpa. 
May you rest in peace for eternity, and may your soul be forever blessed. 

I will always remember how excited I was to see you return from a business trip carrying a doll to add to my collection. Memories of you, mom Dave and I sea shell hunting  on the beach in the Philippines, teaching me to drive a manual car, family picnics, going fishing at our favorite spot at Fountainhead and our evening bike ride after dinner. You will be forever in my heart. I love you dad! It’s not goodbye, it’s so long for now. Rest In Peace in our Savior’s loving embrace!

I’m so thankful for all the wonderful memories with Grandpa and for his great grandkids to be able to meet him. 

Grandpa, thank you for your sacrificial service at Pearl Harbor and during the War.

Your Dad’s journey here on earth was one of a life well lived. The road was long, with many twists and turns, and he proved to us that he was a man who never gave up. Though his road has ended here, it continues with a wonderful promise from our loving Father above:
