April 14, 1920 - August 13, 2018
Juanita Lucille Pattinson, nee Johnson, passed away August 13, 2018, at age 98, in her special care residence at AltaVita Village, Riverside, CA.
Born April 14, 1920, she was the only child of Gustav Gerhard and Alida Charlotte Johnson of Billings, Montana. Two years after her birth the family moved to southern California and made their permanent home in Fontana.
Following graduation from Chaffey High School in 1937, Johnie, as she was affectionately known by most, earned her certificate in nursing from St Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, AZ and continued with training in obstetrics at Chicago Lying In Hospital. She took her expertise and gentle touch with her throughout her 33 year career as a Registered Nurse, working at Riverside Community Hospital, many physicians’ offices, and then as an Industrial Nurse.
Johnie met her husband Noel B. (Pat) Pattinson at an USO dance at the historic Mission Inn. They married a year later in 1943 and made their first home in Nashville, Tenn. After a brief stay in Baltimore, MD, they moved to Fontana to raise their two daughters.
They moved to Air Force Village West (now Altavita Village) in 1989, to enjoy retirement and the special friendships formed around the shared military experience and code of conduct. Pat joined the Army Reserves following active duty in WWII, and stayed for 30 years, retiring as a Colonel - Johnie ever by his side. After Pat passed away in 1994, Johnie maintained their home in the village until 3 years ago when she moved into her special care residence.
Johnie is survived by her daughters Pamela N. Martin (Richard) and Judith A. Pattinson, grandchildren Craig R. Martin and Stephanie N. Golden, and great granddaughter Cassidy Golden. Her family is grateful to the staff and caregivers from AltaVita and Dependacare Elite for their compassionate care. Special thanks to Kristee O’Dell for her years of care, companionship and friendship for Johnhie.
Interment will take place Aug. 23, at Riverside National Cemetary where she will be laid to rest alongside Pat where they will be “Together for Eternity” and “Forever in our Hearts.”
