My deepest sympathy to all of you.
 Gus was a marvelous, kind man who reminded me of my father.  We shared a love of flowers and he would stop by from time to time and admire the flowers and swap plants and marvel at how much beauty there was to see in this world.  I know he was very proud of John and Elizabeth.  He would never say he was proud, but I knew from the way he spoke of you both how delighted he was with your accomplishments in life.  Gus helped me with some pretty crazy projects and when my tractor needed repair, he gave me John as a referral.
Gus was a great conversationalist and very well read.  We had some great talks and we both learned a lot from each other.  He was more political than I.  We would sometimes disagree but we were friends and that was good because it made our conversations all the better.
I will never forget Gus-I'll think of him when I'm out in the garden, reading a good book or trying to solve a problem.  

Our family met the Smerczak family when we moved to Romeo, Michigan in 1991.  Our sons became best friends in first grade and spent lots of time working alongside Gus in his workshop.  Gus was a second Dad to our son, Kyle.  We will always remember his bright plaid flannel shirt and toboggan hat and his enormous smile.  Dearest Gus, you will be sincerely missed.  God bless you and your wonderful family.  We love you.

Gus is a dear friend of mine we first met at Voplex in the early eighties and became close friends.  Gus was pationate about his work and political views and I love to talk to him about both  subjects.  Many days on my trips into the city I would stop in at Gus’s shop just to say hi and he was always there and always welcomed the opportunity to talk about how I was doing and tell me about his kids.

To the family and friends of Gus,  I told John Smerczak that I can't think of any ones life that should be celebrated more than his fathers.  Gus was an admired friend , co-worker and business owner,  I as all of you could not be happier to have Gus in my life.  Gus was a natural at the business of extrusion, not all of us  are for sure, he so elegantly ran every aspect of his company but always had time for his friends.  Gus loved this county and most of all happy to have Trump as his president,  I know for this he will rest well!   Love ya buddy!!

I only know Gus because I know John. But if a son is a reflection of his father, then Gus is someone who will be cherished and missed, because John has been such a gift and blessing to our family ever since he entered our lives. Much peace and love to all the Smerczaks.
