Working at the “Cape” her entire career she made many good friends and met her husband, Arnold LaBuda, there.
Ellie and Buda shared their home with several beloved dogs over the years. Their relationship with each other was loving and respectful and an example to anyone fortunate enough to spend any time around them.
As an Aunt to me and my two brothers she was the coolest. We looked forward to our annual summer vacations to her home. On those vacations, Ellie would go to work every day and my brothers and I would play on the beach. On more than one occasion Ellie would call our Mom and ask her to “take the garbage can to the curb” because she forgot to before she left for work. That was our “secret code” to run to the beach as fast as we could because there was a launch ready to happen. I remember many of those wild races to the beach and getting to watch a rocket ship take off. Guess back then launches were more a secret than they are today.
Ellie also taught us how to dance the Twist and other dances. Also taught us how to cuss the “not really bad” cuss words like “fart”. She was the coolest Aunt. After I was grown I often wondered how she tolerated those summers when we visited. She did get to go to work every day. That must have been her saving grace.
Eleanor LaBuda lived a good life. She will be missed.
