Joyce Delaney

Gladys Joyce (Riggs) Delaney, 80, of Sun City Center, FL passed away on January 11, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in New Philadelphia, OH, the daughter of the late George E. and Helen (Snyder) Riggs. She worked for Aetna Life in her early years in Hartford, CT where she met her husband and later in banking as a teller after raising her children at home and was of the Catholic faith. She loved traveling to Las Vegas, seeing the shows and playing a slot machine or two along with riding snowmobiles in Vermont. She was the past President of the Benny Wilson Fan Club and adored her favorite singer, Mac Davis...as well as her Ohio State Buckeyes.

Joyce as she was affectionately known was a loyal, considerate, and welcoming lady, having touched so many lives in her eighty years. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Joyce had such a passionate love for her immediate family, siblings, relatives and friends. She had such a great conviction for her deep roots in her hometown of New Philadelphia, OH to the many, many friends of her children and grandchildren. She was “Mom” or “Grandma” to so many kids she took care of, cooked for, and always cared about their well being over her own. Cooking, baking, attending youth & high school sporting events were her passion which made her so special through the eyes of other people. When a good story was needed, Joyce had her share, talking about her childhood, parenthood and other family members. Her laughter was contagious and her sweet gentle spirit was comforting.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years, David “Dave” William Delaney, Sr.; daughter: Linda Ann (Delaney) Norman of Sun City, FL; 2 sons: David William Delaney, Jr. of Mansfield,CT and James “Jim” Francis Delaney of Valrico, FL; grandchildren: William Delaney and Paige Delaney; brother: Jim Riggs and wife Karen of New Philadelphia, OH; sister-in law and husband: Frank and Gayle (Delaney) Aleria of Hartford, CT along with many loving nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Joyce was predeceased by a daughter, Judith Ann Delaney and a sister, Shirley Riggs Fry.

A memorial service celebrating Joyce’s life will be held at:
