June 28, 1936March 12, 2018

Lois Ann Reed Spencer, 81, of St. Albans, passed away on March 12, 2018, after a long illness. Lois was born in Teays Valley on June 28, 1936. She was preceded in death by her parents, Garvis and Lucille Reed; infant brother, Ernest Reed; and sister, Patricia Reed. She was a 1954 graduate of South Charleston High School and former employee of Bank of WV (now BB&T). While attending summer school in 1952, she met the love of her life, Rupert Spencer. They married July 3, 1954, and spent the next 63 years and eight months together. She was an excellent seamstress, making most of her, her mother's and her daughter's clothes. She loved to play Bridge with Rupert as her partner. They played almost every Saturday night. They enjoyed camping with friends in the Road Runners Camping Club and with their children and grandchildren. They also loved to travel through the United States, missing only four states. Venturing out of the United States, they traveled to Ontario, Canada, Nova Scotia and made four trips to Mexico. Lois traveled with Tammy to Hong Kong, Korea and China, bringing home their first granddaughter. Lois is survived by her husband, Rupert Spencer; her son, Rupert Spencer III (Sa-Ngiam) of Hendersonville, Tenn.; daughter, Tammy Spencer of St. Albans; sister, Nancy Ray of Peru, Ill.; brother, Garvis Reed II (Verisa) of St. Albans; five grandchildren; six nieces and nephews; and seven great-nieces and nephews. A special thank you to caregivers Tina Machuca, Lauren Anderson, and special family caregiver, Tammy Spencer. Service will be held at Cunningham Memorial Cemetery, Upper Mausoleum at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 16, with H.R. Whittington as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd.W., Charleston, WV 25387. Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, 110 B St., St. Albans, is in charge of arrangements.

To the family of Lois Spencer: we share in your loss, and our prayers are always with you. Lois will be remembered for her kindness when Harold Slate had surgeries and when he passed. And we all could kind of laugh when everything went crazy when Little Gar was married (dad was to officiate). Take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering.
