I loved you Al, I should have married you when you asked me because you were the kindest, classiest man I have ever known.  But I was 16 years younger and I thought I was too young to marry an older man.  But if we had lived our lives, maybe age would not have mattered since I ended up in an unhappy younger relationship.  I moved closer to you and often drove by Brandy Wine, remembering good times.  I kept thinking I would run into you, I wish I had...  I loved you Al!

Met Al while learning to play golf at Pheasant Run course in Ofallon, mo back in 2004. ALWAYS enjoyed his pleasant personality. Sorry to hear of his passing.


I knew Al from playing volleyball a long time ago,  as well as softball.
He was a great guy.      I also found out he had played semi-pro ball at one time.

Alfred was a brother to my grandfather Howard Hedrick.  My father’s name was Michael Hedrick Sr.  I never met Alfred.  I’m sad knowing that he lived so close and I missed the opportunity to meet him and learn about my paternal family. I’m sharing one of the only pictures I have of my Grandfather Howard. Prayers for Alfred’s family and friends that he left behind. 

Old and dear friend to my family.  Al was with my husband when we met in1958.  From then on I was a memberof the Central High gang.  Al was an original member of.the Old Dads softball team.  He was a gentleman at all times.  Our family loved him.

I was Al’s secretary at Emerson in 1966.  I worked for him for about 5 years.  At the time he was the head of The Traffic Department overseeing all commerce traffic in/out of Emerson.  He was the most meticulous man I had ever met, so kind, had such a great laugh!  I am privileged to have known him.

We lived next to Al and our Grandma for several years in the 50's and 60's.  He worked at Emerson then.  I was little and had no idea what his job was but it had to be important.  He was dressed to the nines; fancy tailored suit, skinny tie, spit-shined black shoes and a hat.  I remember him lining up his shoes, all black and brown shoes, and I would sit and watch him polish those shoes for what seemed to be for hours.  He took such pride in those shoes.  He was the first person in our family to attend college.  My cousin Betty told me yesterday that he was her inspiration to go to college and how she also looked up to him.  He would play ball in the evenings and I couldn't wait for him to get home because I knew he would take us for ice cream afterwards.  Mom always said "one scoop".  Well, when we got to the window I would ask him if I could have two scoops and of course he said yes.  Because that is what an Uncle is; someone who always gives you an extra scoop of ice cream.
