Dorothy A. Genovese

May 10, 1919December 3, 2018

Sometime during the night on Sunday, December 2, "Grandma Dot" passed away peacefully in her sleep, five months shy of making it to 100. Dorothy overcame many obstacles in her life, becoming an orphan at age eight, losing her husband at age 62 and having to bury her daughter and son-in-law. Even after going through all of this she had an incredible outlook on life. She always found a positive in everything and never complained about anything. Even at age 99, while at the Lake of the Ozarks this past summer, she sat in a chair on the deck with a cigarette in one hand and a Margarita in the other, sunbathing. She wanted to get a tan so that when she came back to her retirement home she would look well-traveled. She had a witty personality who was always saying things that made everyone laugh. She will be greatly missed by all. Dorothy Ann Genovese, nee Fries, was born May 10, 1919, in the picturesque village of Maeystown, Illinois, to Jacob and Anna Fries, nee Sutter. Dorothy was the wife of Frank J. Genovese, who preceded her in death in 1981. She is survived by a son Joseph F. (Lillian) Genovese and was preceded in death by a daughter Judith A. (the late Russell) Klinge; Grandma Dot to Greg Klinge, Matt Klinge, Brooke Smith and Lindsey Cicero; Great-Grandma Dot to Jack Smith, Luke Smith, Charlie Smith, Sam Cicero, Flynn Klinge, Brett Klinge, Cameron Klinge and Lydia Klinge. Dorothy was preceded in death by siblings Arlue Rieck, Harold Boelsing, Raymond Fries, Alvin Fries and Frieda Bennett. Visitation for Dorothy will be held from 9-11 am, Saturday, December 8, at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Rd, St Louis, Mo. 63125. Prayers will be given at 11 am and a graveside service will follow at 11:45 am at Calvary Cemetery, 5239 W. Florissant Ave, St. Louis, Mo. 63115.

In lieu of flowers of flowers, please make expressions of sympathy in memory of Dorothy to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Research Hospital for Children or the charity of your choice.
