She was born on February 2, 1927 near Flagler, CO, the daughter of James R. and Estella (Wendel) Liggett. She is survived by her son, James R. (Mia) Walters, St. Louis, MO; brother-in-law, Wayne (Dorothy) Hanke, Phillipsburg, KS; and late brother’s wife, Rosalie Liggett, Vancouver, WA, seven grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and their children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Hanke, her parents, her daughter, Angela Brewster, and three older brothers and their wives, Harold (Leona) Liggett, F. Eugene Liggett and, Bob (Lois) Liggett.
She was united in marriage for 46 years to Orville W. Hanke in 1964 in Phillipsburg, KS where they lived until returning to Grand Island, NE, in 1989. After Orville’s passing in 2010, she moved to St. Louis to be near her son and his family. Although she lived most of her life in Nebraska and in small communities, she adapted to life in St. Louis and at Meramec Bluffs where she read books, made friends and participated in activities.
A Memorial Service was held at Webster Groves Presbyterian Church in St. Louis, MO. Burial of her ashes will be in the Shelton Cemetery, Shelton, NE, at a date to be determined in the Fall.
