Dr. Fournier helped shepherd me through the doctoral process. His guidance, encouragement, and (most of all) patience were of incalculable value. I truly don't know that I could have finished without his support.
He was a kind man who spoke lovingly of his family. I remember him mentioning his daughter going to medical school, and how proud he was of her.
He was a thoughtful teacher, and I had the privilege of taking his summer literature class focusing on William Blake. I learned so much about not only Blake but other authors who were influenced by his work, and how we are all interrelated through words, ideas, and history.
Dr. Fournier - Lou - you will be remembered as a fine teacher and an even finer person.

Lou was probably one of the very first people I met when I came to St. Louis University. He was excited to have someone else with a New England accent around. I had the very great pleasure to be his student and his TA. He never lost his joy of being in the classroom. Lou cared. He cared about his students, of course, and his colleagues, and before being "green" was a thing, he cared about the Earth. When campus improvements threatened the cherry trees outside Xavier Hall, it was the closest to furious I ever saw him get. He really was just that kind and sweet and generous of himself.
He adored his family.
While he and I never agreed about Sartor Resartus, we both loved baseball. When I worked for Micah House, his office was two doors away. I had set up the ESPN game play as a banner at the top of my computer screen. I would give him updates . Not too long after, he had me set it up on his monitor too. Somewhere there is a picture of us at a Cardinals game. I thought of him when the Red Sox finally won. I wish I had reached out to him then. I am so sorry to hear of his passing, but I am so glad I knew him. You are all in my prayers.
