Robert M. “Bob” Hult

Age 80, of Forest Lake, MN

Formerly a St. Paul East Sider

Finished his Alzheimer’s marathon, surrounded by family, on Thursday, March 28th, 2019. Bob married his fellow Swede and sweetheart, Marlys, 55 years ago, and together they raised three strong and spirited daughters: Kimberly Hult (Robert Pasnau); Kari Taylor (Daniel); and Karla Hult (Gary Frenkel). "PopPop" also taught six grandchildren how to fish: Anna, Thomas, Eva, Boden, Grace and Isabella. Bob was the son of Stanley and Myrtle and the beloved brother of Dick, Don, Mary Jean and his loyal twin, Bill. He adored – and was adored by – several brothers- and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

As the legendary “Hult twins,” Bob and Bill played for the Governors during Johnson High School’s 1950s era of hockey dominance. They continued their partnership on the golf course, baseball diamond and any lake with fish. A dedicated 3Mer, Bob also served his community by supporting Hmong immigrants, working to preserve the Rice Creek Watershed District and helping seniors with their tax returns. Bob followed his faith and family into membership and leadership at his lifelong Covenant church. And yes, Bob loved to run marathons.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, April 6th at 1:30 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 3 PM at First Covenant Church, 1280 Arcade St., St. Paul.

Memorials preferred to First Covenant Church of St. Paul, the Alzheimer’s Association, Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter, or the American Refugee Committee.

I clearly remember when I first met Bob. My cousin Marlys was bringing her beau (or new husband) for the first time to our farm in Hawley MN. My Mom was so worried that he would find our simple home quite a step-down from his "big city" life. Bob walked in our house with the biggest smile, the warmest greeting - and a "wink" for his new little cousins (my sister and I). We loved him ever since.

The world has lost a great man.

I learned how to play hockey with Bob. He was patient, loving and took care of those who were younger and were trying to play the game. He and Bill, were what Johnson hockey was all about.
He will be missed and loved.

Dear Hult Family,
One of my very favorite childhood memories was of going to Forest Lake to spend time with your family. Being on the water, playing in your rooms or the basement and sitting around the dinner table.
Our parents had an amazing friendship and mine would often speak of their goddaughter.
I’m so very sorry for the incredible loss you are experiencing, and pray that you feel the presence of the Holy Spirit comforting you each coming days ahead.
God bless you all your wonderful father, until we meet again.
Love,
Jennifer Johnson- Kusilek

I never met Mr. Hult, but I sure felt like I knew Karla’s Dad. The many things she has shared about him-a man of kindness, acceptance, compassion and generosity. May his inspiring legacy bring each of you some peace as you cope with the pain of his passing. Love and prayers for you in the days and weeks ahead.
